Two weeks ago this colony was active and the boxes heavy. Yesterday, no bees and this tray full of cappings. Were they robbed out?
That looks like the capped honey has been uncapped. If this is a recent event it is commonly seen when a hive has been robed. If it is over a long time like a year it could be the normal over wintering consumption of the hive's honey.
Hi Miles. The cappings pile happened over three or four days last week. The bees are dead or gone. I am guessing bald faced hornets got them. I will try again next year. Thanks.
