Many thanks for the visit, Rick. I appreciate more experienced eyes on my colonies. I ordered fondant and should have it tomorrow or Sunday. Now that the boxes are combined there should be stores enough to get them through. It may have been a close call!

We talked about the lack of nectar and I failed to point out that even the blackberries have not bloomed yet. Swelling, but no flowers. Just a few more days, I think.

Thanks again for coming up. It was a pleasure to meet you.

His colony appeared hopelessly queenless, very small, no evidence of a mite problem so we combined it with another colony. May have swarmed and failed to re-queen. If mother nature is good he might be able do a late season split on this colony.

I suspect a lack of forage in upper pumpkin ridge at this time, he pointed out  some forage on his property and surrounding forrest but there were no bees on it. There was old pollen and very little capped honey in any of his hives. Not near the activity level I am seeing here on the valley floor. At my house the swarm I collected yesterday is bringing in pollen already this AM!

I think he is too far up the hill or this is not a good year in his location. Hopefully the coming blackberries will give his bees some forage.

Are any members making site visits as "mentors" to help newbies gain some understanding of what their colonies are doing? I, among others I think, would benefit from a visit. Renumeration will be generous :-)

One of my four survivor colonies seems to be queen less but I can't find evidence of a laying worker. Is introducing a new queen an option?

Only one of the other colonies are drawing out supers (just started around 5/29). The others have pretty full double deeps, including worker brood, but I see a bit of backfilling nectar into brood frames and no drawing out supers. These are supers from last year, which were not drawn then. Not good I think.

If anyone is willing to visit my apiary on Pumpkin Ridge I would welcome it. Thank you.
