Can someone provide a link to OSU's study that suggests going off label and using 3g per hive body? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom -- I don't think you are going to find printed material where OSU suggests going off-label (as it's against the law).  But there was some discussion at the member meeting towards the end that addressed this issue verbally.  In a few days the recording from that meeting will be available and hopefully this portion is covered for people to review.

I've asked Ramesh to send his slide presentation -- he said 'yes', but we might have to wait a bit as he's out of country.  But once I get it, I'll post it on the website under 'presentations'.

OK -- I found a study that indicates what we all heard at the meeting.  This is from the Univ. of Florida.

I'm not sure it's illegal to dose at 3g.

The regulation is so poorly written as it does not prohibit secondary dosages.

Commercial guys cant dose them the way I do, too labor intensive.

2g every 4 days as needed. I treated for near to a brood cycle (unless you can catch them broodless then just twice).

Bob Binnie, for a one dose treatment, uses 3g because 4g does not show a significant gain in mite kill, and may affect the colony negatively.

If you need 4g I think you are getting into formic territory.

Well, after reading that article I decided to see if they knew what they were talking about. So we'll see.

The problem is no one knows near enough about the mite.

    For instance,

No one knows how Oxalic Acid affects the mites.
