Winter losses

After seeing the results of Dewey's fine survey, I am conflicted.

It appears that under reporting has skewed the results. I expect the real loss number is more in the 50% range.

I propose a by-law change that requires reporting losses coinciding with dues fulfillment as part of membership.  :^) This data could be anonymized as well, so the need to fudge would be reduced.

I had 50% losses going into winter with 18, 2 of the losses were preventable. One was a feed lapse and the other due to mites. I will leave more honey this winter and or start feeding earlier.

On a side note I am seeing recent/current signs of pesticide exposure. I have two hives taking a huge hit currently. No idea what they got into.

Im taking pesticide exposure off the table.

    Just one colony lost.

The colony failed to re-queen apparently.

And I found a mouse in the bottom of it, this is the second hive lost at that location that has had a resident mouse.

Putting 1/2" screens on to keep the mice out..... Some of my early hives had an entrance that was too tall.
